Africa Growing popularity Among Chinese Tourists

chinese-tourists

Africa is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Chinese tourists, thanks to its unique landscapes, cultural richness, and diverse travel experiences. In recent years, the number of Chinese visitors to the continent has surged.

Travel data shows a significant rise in bookings. Between February and August this year, Chinese travelers to Africa increased by 1.2 times compared to the previous year. Flights to destinations like Egypt and Kenya have seen sharp growth, with bookings soaring by 236% and 167%, respectively.

Africa’s tourism market has gradually gained familiarity among Chinese travelers, particularly during peak seasons like the Chinese Lunar New Year and summer holidays. The demand for small-group and customized tours has also risen.

Popular African destinations include Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. Chinese tourists are increasingly drawn to Africa’s blend of natural beauty and adventure, from cultural sites in Northern Africa to wildlife safaris in Eastern and Southern Africa. Wildlife migration in Kenya and Tanzania remains a top attraction.

The average length of African trips has extended from 8-10 days to 14-18 days, allowing tourists to explore national parks and engage in activities like wild camping and yacht trips.

Despite the higher costs, Africa is becoming a must-visit destination for more Chinese tourists. Travel agencies are offering more themed packages, and tourism cooperation between China and Africa is expected to deepen, fostering economic, cultural, and trade exchanges between the two regions.
