Hidden Uganda Premieres in New York, Unveiling the Country’s Untapped Tourism Treasures

Hidden Uganda

The highly anticipated travel documentary Hidden Uganda made an unforgettable debut in New York on Wednesday night, captivating a packed audience at the prestigious Whitby Hotel. This landmark event signified a major step in bringing Uganda’s breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and extraordinary adventures into the global spotlight.

Produced by the acclaimed travel journalist Peter Greenberg, Hidden Uganda offers an immersive journey into the heart of this East African gem. Greenberg, widely known for his work on Tanzania: The Royal Tour and Rwanda: The Royal Tour, embarked on this ambitious project in February 2024, crafting a one-hour special that is part of his Hidden series. Notably, this is the first documentary of its kind to be filmed and aired on the African continent, according to EPS Executive Program Services.

A Journey Through Uganda’s Hidden Wonders

Hidden Uganda provides an enchanting glimpse into the country’s diverse and lesser-known attractions. Through Greenberg’s lens, viewers are treated to an array of incredible experiences:

  • Street Food Delights in Entebbe – Greenberg dives into Uganda’s culinary scene, savoring its vibrant street food culture, a testament to the country’s rich gastronomic traditions.
  • White-Water Rafting on the Nile – The documentary captures the adrenaline-pumping thrill of navigating the mighty Nile River’s turbulent rapids.
  • Gorilla Trekking in Uganda’s Lush Jungles – One of the most breathtaking segments, this adventure takes viewers deep into the misty forests to witness the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
  • Exploring Uganda’s Agricultural Riches – Greenberg ventures into banana and coffee farms, shedding light on the hardworking farmers and the nation’s agricultural bounty.
  • Baseball in Uganda – A surprising and heartwarming highlight, the film introduces a local baseball team, showcasing the sport’s growing popularity in Uganda.
  • Iconic Ankole Cattle – The majestic, long-horned Ankole cattle make an appearance, symbolizing Uganda’s deep-rooted pastoral traditions.

A Boost for Uganda’s Tourism Industry

While Hidden Uganda does not feature President Museveni as a guide, it beautifully encapsulates the country’s essence through Greenberg’s adventurous storytelling and eye for detail. From powerful waterfalls and dense jungles to diverse wildlife and dynamic traditions, the film serves as a love letter to Uganda’s hidden gems.

The New York premiere of Hidden Uganda marks a significant milestone for Uganda’s tourism sector. By unveiling the country’s unparalleled attractions to an international audience, the documentary has the potential to attract more travelers, uplift local economies, and create new opportunities for communities reliant on tourism.

With its stunning visuals and compelling narrative, Hidden Uganda is more than just a documentary—it’s an invitation for the world to discover the magic of Uganda. Whether you’re an adventure enthusiast, a cultural explorer, or simply someone seeking the road less traveled, Uganda awaits with open arms and unparalleled beauty.
