Uganda has intensified efforts to position itself as a premier tourism and investment destination in India, leveraging major travel trade platforms to amplify the global appeal of Brand Uganda. The Uganda High Commission in India, in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Airlines, is participating in the Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) in Mumbai from 5–7 February, followed by the South Asia Tourism and Travel Exchange (SATTE) in New Delhi from 25–27 February 2026.

Speaking at the opening of the tourism promotion activities, Uganda’s High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Prof. Joyce Kikafunda, underscored India’s growing importance as a source market for global tourism. She noted that India’s expanding middle class, rising disposable incomes, and increasing appetite for international travel make the country a strategic market for Uganda.
“OTM Mumbai presents a golden opportunity for Uganda to enhance her visibility and firmly establish herself as a destination of choice,” Ambassador Kikafunda said. The event is expected to attract more than 50,000 trade visitors and over 2,200 exhibitors from upwards of 60 countries, offering Uganda a powerful platform to engage key industry players.
Ahead of OTM, Uganda rolled out the Explore Uganda India Tourism Roadshow, held from 2–4 February 2026 in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. According to Mr. Brian Mwanika, Head of Economic and Commercial Diplomacy at the Uganda High Commission, the roadshow is designed to raise awareness and deepen market penetration in some of India’s most influential outbound travel hubs. The initiative is jointly organized by the High Commission, UTB, and Uganda Airlines.
Mumbai, in particular, occupies a pivotal position in India’s outbound travel ecosystem. Nearly six out of ten Indians traveling overseas transit through the city. It is home to the country’s largest outbound tour operators, many of whom specialize in luxury and long-haul travel, as well as Bollywood—an industry that significantly shapes travel aspirations and global destination trends.
India already ranks as Uganda’s leading source of international tourists outside East Africa. Ambassador Kikafunda revealed that Indian arrivals to Uganda rose from 34,208 in 2024 to 42,800 in 2025. Building on this momentum, the High Commission has set an ambitious target of attracting more than 100,000 Indian visitors within the next two years.
Improved air connectivity has been a key driver of this growth. Uganda Airlines launched direct flights between Entebbe and Mumbai in October 2023, significantly reducing travel time and costs. Further strengthening ties, Uganda Airlines signed an Inter-Airline Agreement with Air India in September 2025, enabling seamless connections and greater convenience for travelers between the two countries.
These strategic milestones are not only boosting tourism flows but also deepening business and people-to-people links between Uganda and India. With heritage, nature, and authentic cultural experiences at the heart of its offering, Uganda is positioning itself to capture the imagination of India’s fast-growing outbound travel market.
