Entebbe International Airport continues to demonstrate its pivotal role in Uganda’s aviation sector, with March 2025 figures reflecting sustained growth in both passenger and cargo operations.
In March 2025, the airport handled 178,383 international passengers, comprising 83,661 arrivals and 94,722 departures. This marks an increase of 6,393 passengers compared to March 2024, which recorded 171,990 travelers . The daily average stood at 5,754 passengers, underscoring a consistent upward trend.
January 2025 was particularly notable, with Entebbe registering 216,740 passengers, the second-highest monthly figure in the airport’s history . This surge is attributed to increased tourism, business travel, and the introduction of new air operators enhancing connectivity.
Robust Cargo Performance
Cargo operations have also seen significant activity. In March 2025, Entebbe handled 5,852 metric tonnes of cargo, including 1,965 tonnes of imports and 3,887 tonnes of exports. The strong export figures contribute positively to Uganda’s foreign exchange earnings and reflect the country’s growing role in regional trade.
This performance builds on January 2025’s cargo statistics, where the airport managed 5,069 metric tonnes, with exports accounting for 3,491 tonnes and imports 1,578 tonnes.
To accommodate the increasing traffic, Entebbe International Airport is undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades. The expansion project, now 90% complete, includes the construction of a new terminal building, runway enhancements, and improved cargo handling facilities . These developments aim to position Uganda as a competitive regional hub for air travel and logistics.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) remains committed to the growth and development of the aviation industry, focusing on enhancing safety, security, and service delivery to meet international standards.
With continuous improvements in infrastructure and strategic efforts to boost tourism and trade, Entebbe International Airport is well on its way to solidifying its status as a key player in the regional aviation landscape.
