Entebbe International Airport’s Records Influx in Travel – January 2024 Stats

Entebbe International Airport

Entebbe International Airport has once again proven its significance as Uganda’s foremost link to the global community with its remarkable performance in January 2024. Hosting a staggering total of 196,211 international passengers within its terminals, the airport has showcased extraordinary resilience and growth despite the prevailing global challenges.

Breaking down these impressive figures reveals a daily average of 6,329 passengers, with 99,216 arrivals and 96,995 departures. This remarkable influx, only marginally trailing the previous December’s record-breaking statistics, underscores Entebbe Airport’s pivotal role as a crucial node in Uganda’s connectivity to the world.

A notable contributor to this surge in passenger traffic is Uganda’s successful hosting of the NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) & G77+ China summits in January 2024. The airport played a central role in facilitating the arrival and departure of 1,918 delegates for these prestigious events, solidifying its status as a logistical hub for major international gatherings.

However, it’s not solely passenger traffic that’s keeping Entebbe International Airport bustling; the cargo sector is also experiencing significant activity. In January 2024 alone, the airport handled an impressive 1,579 metric tonnes of imports and 3,604 metric tonnes of exports, totaling 5,183 metric tonnes of cargo.

These remarkable statistics underscore Entebbe International Airport’s indispensable role in Uganda’s connectivity to the global economy. Its ability to efficiently manage both passenger and cargo traffic speaks volumes about its world-class facilities, dedicated personnel, and strategic location.

For Uganda’s travel and tourism industry, these stats signify a significant milestone. The surge in international passenger traffic not only brings economic benefits through increased spending on tourism-related services but also enhances Uganda’s global reputation as an attractive destination for business, conferences, and leisure travel.

Moreover, it emphasises the critical importance of continued investment in airport infrastructure and tourism promotion efforts to sustain this momentum and unlock the full potential of Uganda’s rich cultural heritage, natural wonders, and hospitality industry.

Looking ahead, Entebbe International Airport remains poised for continued success, serving as a vital conduit for Uganda’s socio-economic development and as a beacon of connectivity and progress for the wider East African region. As Uganda continues to position itself as a regional hub for trade, tourism, and diplomacy, the airport’s resilience and adaptability will undoubtedly play a crucial role in driving the nation’s growth forward.
