Uganda’s tourism scene just got a major boost with Ms. Juliana Kagwa stepping in as the new CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB). She officially took office today, June 16, 2025, ready to lead the charge in showcasing the Pearl of Africa to the world. Her welcome was a high-profile affair, with UTB’s top brass, including Board Chairperson Ms. Pearl Kakooza, onboard to mark this significant moment for the country’s vibrant tourism industry.

Juliana isn’t just any new leader; she brings over two decades of experience in marketing and commercial leadership from across Africa, particularly in fast-moving consumer goods and agribusiness. She’s a pro at building iconic brands, fostering powerful partnerships, and driving sustainable growth. Before this, she was the Group Marketing and Sales Director at Seed Co International, steering commercial and brand strategies across more than 20 African markets. You might also know her from her senior roles at Uganda Breweries Limited, where she championed award-winning campaigns and significantly boosted exports for some of Uganda’s most beloved brands. Clearly, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

New CEO handover

Ms. Pearl Kakooza expressed immense confidence in Juliana, noting that her “extensive experience in brand management and her commitment to sustainable development make her an ideal leader for UTB.” Pearl believes Juliana’s leadership will perfectly align with Uganda’s National Development Plan and Vision 2040, truly advancing UTB’s mission. Juliana herself is “humbled and honoured” to serve her country in a sector so vital for transforming lives and driving economic growth. A lifelong advocate for “Brand Uganda,” she’s eager to build on existing achievements and share Uganda’s unique story with a global audience.

Beyond her corporate achievements, Juliana has a strong track record of impactful initiatives. At UBL, she spearheaded the ROOTS reforestation partnership to combat climate change and initiated a joint task force to tackle illicit alcohol trade. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, her “Vaccination for the Nation” campaign helped over half a million Ugandans get vaccinated rapidly. With a Master of Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from Makerere University, Juliana Kagwa is exceptionally well-equipped to lead UTB into an exciting new era. Get ready to see Uganda shine brighter than ever on the world stage.
