The pride of western Uganda is officially gleaming! The newly built Hoima City Stadium has earned a perfect five-star pitch rating after an independent assessment, signaling a major leap forward in Uganda’s readiness to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to Peter Ogwang, Uganda’s Minister of State for Sports, the pitch scored an impeccable 115 out of 115 points, meeting the highest international standards in every category.
“Following an independent site assessment conducted on November 5, 2025, the Hoima City Stadium pitch achieved a 5-star rating, scoring a perfect 115 out of 115 points,”
said Minister Ogwang.
He further noted that the evaluation covered three critical areas, Playing Quality, Physical Quality, and Turf Quality, all of which received top marks. “I commend all stakeholders, including our contractor SUMMA, for delivering this milestone in Uganda’s sports infrastructure,” he added.

A Jewel in Uganda’s Sporting Crown
Built at a cost of $130 million, fully funded through Uganda’s Petroleum Fund managed by the Bank of Uganda, the 20,000-seater stadium stands as a world-class facility. Alongside it is the Hoima City Arena, which accommodates an additional 2,000 spectators.
Currently 99% complete, the stadium’s final touches are being handled by SUMMA Construction Company, with a grand commissioning expected soon, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni himself.
Inside, fans can expect cutting-edge amenities: a hybrid grass pitch, indoor sports halls, swimming pool, tennis courts, and an elegant VVIP lounge all meticulously designed to meet CAF and FIFA standards.
