It’s Gold: Jacob Kiplimo Equals Record at the Sevens Hills Road Race

In the noteworthy setting of Nijmegen, Netherlands, Jacob Kiplimo, the Ugandan luminary in long-distance running, engraved his mark in history, echoing the achievements of his compatriot Joshua Cheptegei. The Sevens Hills road race unfolded with Kiplimo’s triumphant journey across the undulating course, culminating in a winning time of 41.05, precisely matching the world record established by Cheptegei in 2018.

In close pursuit, his compatriot Rogers Kibet completed the race in 42 minutes and 44 seconds, while Kenya’s Amos Serem secured an admirable third place with a time of 43 minutes and 47 seconds.

As the race unfolded, Kiplimo exhibited an intense pace, clocking 14 minutes and 24 seconds at the 5km mark, showcasing an astonishing average of 2 minutes and 54 seconds per kilometer. The 10km point witnessed an acceleration in velocity, with a pace of 2 minutes and 35 seconds per kilometer, resulting in a cumulative time of 30 minutes and 35 seconds. The final stretch saw Kiplimo sprinting at an impressive pace of 2 minutes and 31 seconds per kilometer as he crossed the finish line, joyfully proclaiming, “It brings me great joy to have made history in the 15-kilometer road racing.”

In the women’s competition, Uganda’s Stella Chesang achieved a commendable third place, completing the race in 48 minutes and 2 seconds. The top spot in the women’s category was secured by Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, finishing in 47 minutes and 12 seconds.

Radiating joy, Peter Chelangat, Kiplimo’s Ugandan coach, expressed appreciation, praising the accomplished long-distance athlete for bringing honor to Uganda. “He represented us with pride; it was an exceptional run,” Chelangat exulted.
